What we aim for
CareersMV aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Finding work should not depend on how you use a computer or a phone, so the rules below apply to every page, including the employer tools.
Keyboard and focus
- Every control can be reached and used with a keyboard, in reading order.
- A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on each page.
- The focused element always has a visible ring, 2px in the primary colour.
- Menus and dialogs move focus inside when they open and give it back when they close; Escape closes them.
Screen readers
- Every form field has a label, and errors are linked to their field and say what to do.
- Icon-only buttons have a name, toggles say whether they are on, and the current page or tab is marked as current.
- Maps are drawn pictures: every pin on a map also appears as text in the list beside it.
- Text that people type, such as names and job titles, is set to read in its own direction, so Dhivehi and other right-to-left text reads correctly.
- Gazette notices in Dhivehi keep their right-to-left layout and are set in a Thaana typeface.
Seeing the page
- Text contrast is at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, in the light and the dark theme.
- Pages reflow from a 390px phone to a wide screen without sideways scrolling, and work zoomed to 200%.
- Colour never carries meaning on its own: a closing date in red also says how many days are left.
- Choose light, dark or your system setting from the footer or your account menu.
Touch and motion
- Buttons and links you tap are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Nothing moves on its own. If your device asks for reduced motion, cards stop lifting on hover.
What we have not done yet
We would rather tell you than have you find out:
- The site has not yet been tested with people who use screen readers, switch access or voice control every day.
- Attachments that employers upload, such as PDF notices, are shown as they were sent and may not be accessible.
- Listings collected from other sites keep their original wording and layout, including the tables in some Gazette notices. We do not rewrite them.
