How CareersMV Insights
counts the job market.

Where the listings come from, how a vacancy posted on several boards is counted once, how pay is made comparable, and what the figures cannot tell you.

What counts as a vacancy

A vacancy is one job advertisement: a post an employer publishes on CareersMV, or a noticeCareersMV copies from the Government Gazette or a job board. It is open from the day it is published until its closing date. A vacancy with no closing date counts as open for 60 days.

“New” means published that day or that week, in Maldives time (UTC+5), whether it is still open or has closed since.

Where the listings come from

Employers post on CareersMV directly. CareersMV also reads the Government Gazette’s job notices (and shows them in English) and copies job boards. The listing standards say which, and how each copy links back to its source.

Each source started at a different date. Days before CareersMV read every source are drawn as incomplete on the charts, and comparisons over 30 days wait until there are 60 days of data.

One vacancy, counted once

The same vacancy is often published on two or three boards. CareersMV matches the copies (by their text, employer, title, place and Gazette notice number) and counts the vacancy once, at its most trusted copy. Copies that cannot be settled automatically are checked by hand.

Roles, fields and places

Every vacancy is classified against one fixed list: its role, field, department, the employer’s industry, its seniority and type of work, and where it is (the island, the atoll and, for resorts, the resort itself, from official lists of islands and resorts). Rules settle most vacancies; the rest are classified by an AI model and checked when it is unsure.

Advertised pay

Pay is what a vacancy advertises, not what anyone is paid. It is made comparable as rufiyaa a month: yearly, daily and hourly figures are converted, and US dollars at the rufiyaa’s fixed rate against the dollar. A vacancy that gives a range counts at its midpoint.

A group (a role, a field) needs at least 3 vacancies with pay before a figure is shown, and groups with fewer than 5 are drawn lighter. Most resort vacancies do not advertise pay, so advertised pay leans to government jobs. Pay that staff report is shown apart from advertised pay, on the salary pages, only once enough people report it.

Limits

The figures cover the vacancies CareersMV sees, not every job in the Maldives: some employers hire by word of mouth or through agencies, and some boards are not read. A rise in vacancies can mean more hiring or a new source. Read each figure with its date.
