Main responsibilities and duties of the post

  1. Identifying children who need counselling and arranging for counselling to be provided to those children.
  2. Establishing a school-based referral system so that children who need counselling support can be ensured access to that service, by making arrangements for teachers, lead teachers and guardians to refer children for counselling, and giving children the opportunity to attend a voluntary session.
  3. Arranging intervention for children who come for counselling services, where the assistance of other school staff is needed.
  4. Maintaining the records of all children who receive counselling services, keeping a case register, preparing case files, preparing a session plan setting out how sessions will be conducted, and preparing and maintaining session notes after each session.
  5. Identifying children who are vulnerable due to various circumstances and, in consultation with teachers and school leaders, arranging the assistance they need, and working with the Ministry of Education and other government agencies to obtain the assistance required for this work.
  6. Identifying, among the children who come for counselling services, those who need specialised support and making referrals.
  7. Implementing, under the guidance and direction of the school leadership, the policies, strategies and procedures the Ministry of Education has established regarding child protection.
  8. If abuse, neglect or harassment of a child is identified, is reported, or is suspected, referring the child in accordance with the "Procedure for Ensuring Child Protection in the Education Sector" and providing the child with the psychological support they need.
  9. Where a counsellor has to answer to the Maldives Police Service or a Sharia court in a case involving a child or children, carrying this out under the technical guidance of the Ministry of Education's legal officer.
  10. Designing and running programmes for children, parents, guardians and teachers, aimed at ensuring children's safety and their psychological wellbeing, under the guidance and direction of the school leadership.
  11. Performing the duties of a liaison or deputy liaison officer for child protection in education under the "Procedure for Ensuring Child Protection in the Education Sector" at the school.
  12. Obtaining the information needed to ensure psychological wellbeing and providing it to children.

Requirements of the post

  1. A Level 7 or Level 8 degree on the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, or a Bachelor's Honours degree, in a field related to the duties of the post.
  2. Registered with and licensed by the Maldives Allied Health Council.

  4. If a staff member with a service agreement to serve the Civil Service / Government is transferred to this position, a letter issued by the office providing the service stating that there is no objection to leaving the position.
  5. Copies of educational certificates obtained;

(a) For educational certificates issued by institutions outside Maldives that have been graded by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at a certain level, copies of the educational certificate and transcript; or: in cases where there is no certificate, a copy of the letter confirming completion of the course and a copy of the assessment report and transcript issued by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.

(b) Copies of educational certificates and transcript issued by local educational institutions in Maldives; or copies of letter confirming completion of the course and copies of transcript.

  1. Copies of documents covering the following criteria providing work experience:

(a) If work experience has been gained in a civil service post, in a state institution, in a government-owned company, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(b) For work experience within the civil service that cannot be verified from https://myaccount.csc.gov.mv/, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period (in years, months and days) confirmed by that office, and stating the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(c) If work experience has been gained in a private company or private organisation, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) and the number of staff at the workplace.

(d) If work has been undertaken in a national or international association or society, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, and the period (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each). This letter should state whether the position held is a salaried position or not, or alternatively, an official letter from that organisation confirming this.

(e) If work has been undertaken in a dissolved state institution, or in a dissolved private company or private organisation, or in a dissolved national or international society or association, and a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period of work (in years, months and days) and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) cannot be obtained, the "Reference Check Form for Work Experience from a Dissolved Workplace" found in Table 8 of the Recruitment Rules.

  • The post will be filled by the applicant who obtains the highest total of points, starting from 60% (sixty percent) of the total points across all criteria.
