Public bodies in the Maldives publish their vacancies in the Government Gazette; private employers advertise on job boards. A private employer that wants to hire a foreign worker must first advertise on the National Job Center for at least 7 days.
1,599 vacancies are open in the Maldives on CareersMV as of 7 Oct 2026: 1,096 at 123 resorts and 398 in government and the public sector.
What the Government Gazette is
The Government Gazette is the official publication for laws, regulations and the notices of government offices. The Gazette's own page says it carries laws, regulations, announcements, notices and press releases from government offices.
The President's Office gazettes the legal texts. Since 15 January 2017, each office publishes its own announcements, including vacancies (Gazette: about).
The policy that government notices go in the Gazette dates from 1 September 2009. The President's Office announced that from then, government notices, announcements and directives would be published only in the Gazette. It is free to read online.
Who publishes vacancies there
Vacancy notices in the Gazette come from ministries, island and city councils, the Civil Service Commission and state-owned companies. On 6 October 2026, the vacancy section showed notices from Feydhoo Council, the Civil Service Commission and Aasandha. Maldive Gas and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company posted too.
Civil service posts follow the Civil Service Commission's recruitment rules. The Civil Service Regulation 2014, section 91, says civil service posts are advertised according to the Commission's standards for selecting and appointing employees.
Most notices are in Dhivehi. Some state companies add an English version.
What a Gazette vacancy notice contains
A civil service notice follows a fixed pattern. The Feydhoo Council notice for two preschool teacher assistants, published on 6 October 2026, shows it:
- the post, the number of people needed and the contract type (temporary, 2 years)
- the public service rank and step
- the place of work
- the salary, the post allowance and a daily attendance allowance, in rufiyaa
- pension and overtime under civil service rules
- duties, then the minimum qualifications
- the documents to send, including the Civil Service Commission's application form
- how candidates are scored: basic requirement, extra education, extra experience, assessment and interview
- the closing date and time, and where to apply
- the interview window, and when the points sheet (the A2 sheet) is published
- how to complain about the scores, within 3 working days
Government notices are where most advertised pay in the Maldives appears. Resorts rarely advertise pay.
Where private employers advertise
No regulation we checked requires a private company to advertise its vacancies in the Gazette. Private employers reach candidates through job boards, social media, recruitment agencies and word of mouth.
The one advertising rule private employers face comes with foreign hiring. Under Regulation 2025/R-120, a quota can be used only after a National Job Center advert of at least 7 days (Schedule 2, Article 18). No suitable Maldivian must have applied (Article 56).
That advert must say how many people you need and give the job details. You must use the quota within 3 months of it, and pay the foreign hire the salary and benefits it offered. The steps are in hiring foreign workers in the Maldives.
A job board and the National Job Center do different jobs. The Job Center step is a legal condition for a quota. A job board is where you look for the best candidate, Maldivian or foreign.
Posting on CareersMV
Posting a job on CareersMV is free. You write the job, add your company and publish; optional paid promotion is on the pricing page.
CareersMV also shows Government Gazette vacancies in English, so candidates who do not read Dhivehi can find public-sector jobs. They are at government jobs.
Which to use
Use the channel your situation requires, then add the ones your candidates read.
| You are | Where to advertise |
|---|---|
| A ministry, council or other state office | The Government Gazette, under your recruitment rules |
| A state-owned company | The Gazette, as several do, plus job boards |
| A private company hiring locally | Job boards, social media and your own site |
| A private company that may hire from abroad | The National Job Center for at least 7 days, then job boards |
Check your own obligations with the body that sets your rules. That is the Civil Service Commission for civil service posts, or the Department of Foreign Labour (1485) for quotas.
For what to put in the advert itself, see how to write a job vacancy in the Maldives.
