For a Maldives job, send a short CV in English with your contact details, your most recent job and your relevant certificates at the top. For a civil service post you also complete the Civil Service Commission's application form and attach the documents the vacancy notice lists.
There is no official CV format for private employers. What follows is practical advice, plus the document rules that are set in writing.
What employers ask for
What you send depends on the employer. Resorts want a CV first and documents later; the civil service wants every document with the application.
Resorts and private companies
Resort adverts usually ask you to email a CV or use an online form, naming the position. Some also ask for a cover letter, references or a photo; follow the advert exactly.
Keep passport scans and certificates until the employer asks for them at the offer stage. If you are foreign and get an offer, the employer needs these for your work permit (Regulation 2025/R-120, Schedule 4, article 11):
- a colour copy of your passport data page and a passport-size digital photo;
- your certificates, accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority, if the job needs a qualification;
- a copy of your professional licence, if the job needs one;
- a police report from your home country, less than 6 months old;
- a work permit medical and proof of the vaccinations the Ministry of Health requires.
The civil service
Civil service notices list the documents in a fixed order (example, 6 October 2026):
- The completed CSC application form.
- Your CV, including a phone number and email address.
- A copy of both sides of your national identity card.
- A no-objection letter from your current office, if you have a service agreement with the government.
- Certificates and transcripts; certificates from abroad must be levelled and stamped by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.
- A letter from each past employer giving your post, exact dates in years, months and days, and your duties.
The government jobs guide explains the experience letters and how points are scored.
Teaching and health posts
These jobs add licences and registration:
- State school teachers need a teaching licence from the Teachers Registration Board (School Teachers job matrix).
- Foreign nurses recruited by the Ministry of Health need a nursing degree recognised by the Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council. They also need home registration and IELTS General 5.5 or OET grade C. A good standing certificate is due within 72 hours of being selected for interview (demand letter, 18 August 2026).
- Foreign doctors recruited by the Ministry need an MBBS recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. They must also have completed a 12-month internship (demand letter, 24 June 2026).
The Ministry of Health's nurse notice also says it counts only experience gained after graduation and registration. It will reject applications that list internships or recommendation letters as work experience.
Getting your certificates recognised
The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) recognises qualifications earned abroad. Maldivians get a stamp of recognition on copies of their certificates; foreigners get a qualification recognition report (MQA).
Start this early if the job needs a qualification, because both civil service applications and work permits can depend on it.
A CV outline
Use this order and keep it to two pages unless the job is senior or academic.
- Header: full name, the job title you are applying for, phone number with country code, email address, current country and when you can start.
- Profile: two or three lines on your trade, your years of experience and the kind of property or organisation you have worked in.
- Experience: most recent job first. For each job give the employer, its town or island, and the type and size of the business. Add your title and the month and year you started and finished.
- Achievements: under each job, three to five lines on what you did and improved. Use real figures you can back up, such as covers served, rooms cleaned or students taught.
- Skills: languages with your level, the software and systems you use, and your trade skills.
- Education and certificates: each qualification with its level, the institution and the year. Add licences, food hygiene, first aid and diving or lifeguard certificates.
- References: two former supervisors with their job titles, phone numbers and email addresses.
Some practical points:
- Send a PDF named with your name and the job title.
- Make your dates match your experience letters; civil service offices work out your experience from the dates in them.
- Add a photo only if the advert asks for one.
- Leave out your passport number, ID card number and date of birth until you have an offer from an employer you have checked.
Fitting your CV to the job
Put the details a department head looks for in the first half page.
- Front office and guest relations: languages, property management systems, upselling results and guest feedback scores.
- Food and beverage service and bars: outlet types, covers per shift, wine or cocktail training and point-of-sale systems.
- Kitchen: cuisines, sections you have run, food safety certificates and the size of the kitchen team.
- Housekeeping: room or villa counts, standards you worked to, laundry or public area experience and inspection roles.
- Spa and wellness: treatments and the hours of training behind each, product houses you are certified with, and any retail targets.
- Diving and water sports: certification agency and level, number of logged dives, boat handling and first aid.
- Engineering and maintenance: trades, licences, and the systems you maintain, such as generators, air conditioning, plumbing or desalination plants.
- Teaching: subjects and grades taught, curriculum experience, teaching qualifications and any licence.
- Nursing and health: ward types, bed size of hospitals, registration numbers and dates, and continuing education.
- Office and government roles: the systems and laws you work with, reports you produced and any public-facing work.
How interviews work
Resort interviews usually start with a phone or video call with human resources, then an interview with the head of department. Chefs, bartenders, spa therapists and technicians may be asked for a practical test or a trade demonstration.
Civil service interviews are scored by a panel, and the points are published. The CSC's own Lead Attorney post gave 45% to an interview with a presentation and 15% to an exam or practical (notice).
Teacher posts can weight the practical above the interview. A school notice of 6 October 2026 gave 35 points to the practical and 25 to the interview (Kondey School).
Common interview questions and what a good answer covers
Answer with a real example: the situation, what you did and the result. Panels and managers remember specific answers, not general ones.
Any resort job
- Why do you want to work on a resort island? Show you understand island life: shared staff housing, long periods away from home and a set schedule for leaving the island.
- Tell me about a guest complaint you handled. Describe how you listened, took ownership, fixed the problem and followed up.
- How do you work with colleagues from many countries? Give an example of solving a misunderstanding or sharing work across a mixed team.
- What would you do if you saw a colleague breaking a safety rule? Explain that you would stop the danger first, then report it through your supervisor.
Front office and guest relations
- How would you handle a guest whose room is not ready? Cover an apology, a clear time, somewhere comfortable to wait, and telling housekeeping.
- How do you sell an upgrade without pressure? Explain matching the offer to what the guest has told you they want.
Food and beverage, and kitchens
- A guest says they have a nut allergy. What do you do? Confirm the allergy with the kitchen before ordering, never guess, and record it for the whole stay.
- How do you keep food safe in a busy service? Talk about temperature checks, labelling and dating, and keeping raw and cooked food apart.
- Show us a dish (practical). Cook something you know well, keep your station clean and time it.
Housekeeping
- How many rooms can you finish to standard in a shift? Give your real figure and the standard you worked to; do not inflate it.
- What do you do with an item a guest has left behind? Explain the lost property procedure: record it, hand it in, and never keep or give it away.
Spa, diving and water sports
- A guest mentions a medical condition before a treatment. What do you do? Explain checking the consultation form, adapting or declining the treatment, and asking a senior therapist.
- A diver panics underwater. What do you do? Walk through the steps your certification agency teaches, staying calm and keeping the group safe.
Engineering and maintenance
- Three faults come in at once. Which do you fix first? Put safety first, then anything affecting guests or essential plant, then the rest, and keep your supervisor informed.
Teaching
- How would you teach a class with mixed abilities? Describe grouping, tasks at different levels and checking each student's progress.
- How do you plan a lesson to meet the national curriculum? The teacher job matrix asks teachers to plan lessons around the curriculum's "key competencies"; show you can do that.
- How do you keep parents informed? Mention regular updates, records of progress and how you handle a difficult conversation.
Nursing and health
- A patient's condition gets worse on your shift. What do you do? Cover observation, escalating early to the doctor, and recording what you did.
- How do you prevent infection on a ward? Talk about hand hygiene, isolation procedures and following the hospital's infection control guidelines.
Office and civil service roles
- What does this office do? Read the office's mandate and recent news before the interview and mention one current project.
- How would you deal with an angry member of the public? Describe listening, explaining the rules clearly and passing the case on when it is outside your role.
Questions to ask the employer
Ask these before you accept, and check that the answers appear in your offer letter:
- What is the basic salary in US dollars and rufiyaa, and how much has service charge been in recent months?
- What accommodation and meals are provided, and is the room shared?
- How do days off and annual leave work, and are leave air tickets included?
- How long is the contract and the probation period?
- When will the employer apply for my work permit entry pass, and does it pay all the permit fees?
The employer pays the permit fees by law; if the answer is anything else, read the guide to avoiding fake job offers.
Questions people ask
What is the CV format for Maldives jobs?
There is no official format for private employers. Use a two-page English CV with your contact details, your most recent job, your achievements, your certificates and two references. Civil service posts also need the CSC application form and set documents.
Should I put a photo on my CV for a Maldives job?
Only if the advert asks for one. Otherwise leave it out and keep the space for your experience.
Do I need my certificates recognised by the MQA?
For a civil service post, certificates from abroad must be levelled and stamped by the Maldives Qualifications Authority. A foreign worker's permit also needs MQA-accredited certificates if the job requires a qualification. Private employers often ask for them only at the offer stage.
What questions are asked in a Maldives resort interview?
Expect questions about guest complaints, working in a mixed team, island life and your own trade. Chefs, bartenders, spa therapists and technicians may also have a practical test.
What happens in a teaching job interview in the Maldives?
State school posts are scored on qualifications, experience, an interview and a practical. In one October 2026 school notice the practical carried more points than the interview, so prepare a lesson you can teach well.
How long should my CV be?
Two pages is enough for most resort, trade and office jobs. Senior, academic and medical posts can run longer if every page adds relevant experience or qualifications.
