Main responsibilities and duties of the post
- Provision of legal advice to this ministry and its departments
- To protect the interests of this ministry and reduce legal risks, draft and review sensitive legal matters and complex contracts and agreements and various legal documents, and conduct all necessary administrative and technical preparations required in relation to such matters, and provide assistance in government meetings held under the guidance of superiors
- Review matters that violate the Civil Service laws and regulations governing the employees of this ministry and its departments, and prepare necessary documents for investigations, and carry out all legal work that these departments are required to perform legally
- Establish guidelines and identify standards that must be followed in the implementation of this ministry and its departments' laws and regulations.
- Carry out necessary actions in sending matters that need to be sent to the Attorney General's Office.
- Carry out all work that the ministry needs to do in relation to matters submitted to the employment tribunal.
- Review matters submitted by employees of this ministry and its departments and provide advice required to resolve those matters.
- Monitor changes to laws, regulations, judicial decisions and legal best practices, assess the impact on the department's work, and present identified changes that need to be made to superiors.
- Study the laws and regulations under this ministry's mandate, and carry out work to develop necessary amendments to the laws and regulations.
- Draft agreements that this ministry enters into.
Requirements of the post
Having obtained a Bachelor's degree or a Bachelor's Honours degree at level 7 or 8 of the National Qualification Framework of the Maldives in a field related to the work of the post.

- A readable copy of both sides of the card proving that the applicant is a Maldivian citizen (even if the validity period has expired), or if the ID card is lost, the applicant's birth certificate, passport or driving licence.
- If a staff member with a service agreement to serve the Civil Service / Government is transferred to this position, a letter issued by the office providing the service stating that there is no objection to leaving the position.
- Copies of educational certificates obtained;
(a) For educational certificates issued by institutions outside Maldives that have been graded by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at a certain level, copies of the educational certificate and transcript; or: in cases where there is no certificate, a copy of the letter confirming completion of the course and a copy of the assessment report and transcript issued by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.
(b) Copies of educational certificates and transcript issued by local educational institutions in Maldives; or copies of letter confirming completion of the course and copies of transcript.
- Copies of documents covering the following criteria providing work experience:
(a) If work experience has been gained in a civil service post, in a state institution, in a government-owned company, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).
(b) For work experience within the civil service that cannot be verified from https://myaccount.csc.gov.mv/, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period (in years, months and days) confirmed by that office, and stating the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).
(c) If work experience has been gained in a private company or private organisation, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) and the number of staff at the workplace.
(c) If you have worked in a national or international organisation or association, a certificate issued by that organisation stating the post held, the duration of employment (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (even if you have worked in different posts in one department) separately; or alternatively, an official letter issued by that organisation stating this information. (This letter must state whether the post held was a salaried post or not. If not, an official letter from that organisation stating this must be submitted instead.)
(e) If work has been undertaken in a dissolved state institution, or in a dissolved private company or private organisation, or in a dissolved national or international society or association, and a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period of work (in years, months and days) and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) cannot be obtained, the "Reference Check Form for Work Experience from a Dissolved Workplace" found in Table 8 of the Recruitment Rules.

Note: Appointment to the post shall be made to a candidate who meets the following 2 minimum requirements.
- Obtaining a minimum of 15 (fifteen) points for each of "Practicals" and "Presentation and Interview"; and
Obtaining a total of 60 (sixty) points from all criteria stipulated for the post (the criteria set out in section 8.1 of the Guidelines on the qualifications and recruitment procedures for Legal Officers' positions 2022 (Amendment 1)).
