Main responsibilities and duties of the post

  1. Teaching the standards set in the national curriculum both within the classroom and outside the classroom, and carrying out all the necessary work to achieve this.
  2. Designing lesson plans and classroom environments and other activities used in teaching to achieve the "Key Competencies" specified as required for students in the national curriculum.
  3. Managing practical work carried out by students and preparing papers for various tests conducted for students, and administering the tests.
  4. Marking students' books and assessment papers, unit test papers, term test papers, and papers for tests conducted to assess or improve student performance, in relation to the subject being taught.
  5. Maintaining records of student performance and progress.
  6. Sharing information necessary with parents, school staff and educational department personnel regarding student progress.

Requirements of the post

Teacher, Rank 2

  1. Holding a degree at Level 7 or 8 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework or a Bachelor's Honours degree from the Teaching field.

Or:

  1. Holding a degree at Level 7 or Level 8 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework or a Bachelor's Honours degree from a field specifically designated for Teaching, and holding a Diploma at Level 5 or lower of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework from the Teaching field.

Holding a Diploma at Level 5 or an Advanced Diploma/Associate degree at Level 6 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework from the Teaching field.

Note: Any person performing the duties of a teacher must hold a qualification of Level 5 or above in the National Qualification Framework from the Teaching sector. However, if a person holds a qualification of Level 5 or above in a specialised teaching field and has obtained a General Teaching Certificate from the Teaching sector, that certificate may be considered as a qualification from the Teaching sector.

(a) For educational certificates issued by institutions outside Maldives that have been graded by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at a certain level, copies of the educational certificate and transcript; or: in cases where there is no certificate, a copy of the letter confirming completion of the course and a copy of the assessment report and transcript issued by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.

(b) Copies of educational certificates and transcript issued by local educational institutions in Maldives; or copies of letter confirming completion of the course and copies of transcript.

  1. Copies of documents covering the following criteria providing work experience:

(a) If work experience has been gained in a civil service post, in a state institution, in a government-owned company, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(b) For work experience within the civil service that cannot be verified from https://myaccount.csc.gov.mv/, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period (in years, months and days) confirmed by that office, and stating the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(c) If work experience has been gained in a private company or private organisation, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) and the number of staff at the workplace.

(d) If work has been undertaken in a national or international association or society, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, and the period (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each). This letter should state whether the position held is a salaried position or not, or alternatively, an official letter from that organisation confirming this.

(e) If work has been undertaken in a dissolved state institution, or in a dissolved private company or private organisation, or in a dissolved national or international society or association, and a letter from that office stating the work undertaken and the period of work (in years, months and days) and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) cannot be obtained, the "Reference Check Form for Work Experience from a Dissolved Workplace" found in Table 8 of the Recruitment Rules.

Exception given when changing the position of an employee in the Teachers' Job Metrics post

If an employee in a post under Teachers' Job Metrics (from that time's specialization) transfers to or retires from a Teacher's post in a Civil Service organization, the salary shall be fixed at the rank held at that time. And in cases where the conditions for a lower rank than the rank held at that time are met, the salary shall be fixed at the lower rank that meets the conditions. However, if an employee in a post under Teachers' Job Metrics transfers to or retires from a Teacher's post in a Civil Service organization of a different specialization other than the specialization held at that time, then if the "Educational Standard" stated in the School Teachers' Job Metrics is fully met, the salary shall be fixed at the lower rank that meets the conditions. And in cases where the conditions for a lower rank than the rank held at that time are met, the salary shall be fixed at the lower rank that meets the conditions.
