Main responsibilities and duties of the post

1. Participate in and provide technical support to the system of health services in order to improve and further develop them.

2. Working with relevant stakeholders to advance the sub-specialised field.

3. Conducting scientific research on the underlying causes of special health conditions and diseases affecting people, on their treatment and on how these diseases can be prevented, and publishing that research.

4. Conducting scientific studies on the determination of the underlying causes of specific health conditions and diseases affecting humans, and on their treatment and prevention, and publishing those studies.

5. Supervising the work of medical trainees, fellows and staff while providing them with instruction.

6. Providing information on ongoing studies in the sub-specialised field through various forums.

7. Participating, as a medical professional, in statutory councils and boards, and giving opinions in technical committees and boards within health services, and in boards and councils that regulate health service professionals.

8. Carrying out the physical examinations required to identify the physical and mental condition of patients needing sub-specialist health care.

9. Obtaining further information from the patient and from the patient's family members in order to identify the patient's health condition.

10. Reviewing medical information compiled by other doctors and health workers to whom the patient was referred.

11. Advising on and carrying out the investigations needed for sub-specialist health care, and continuing treatment according to their results. Also making the changes to treatment that are needed in response to the outcome of treatment.

12. Providing patients with the psychological and rehabilitation care they need, and providing information on measures to protect against diseases.

13. Performing operations on patients who need specialist health care.

14. Recording and maintaining patients' health information, and sharing that information with the parties with whom it must be shared.

15. Providing information to various parties as required by law and for the performance of technical duties, and assisting and supporting studies and research conducted in the field of work.

16. Preparing medical reports required by law, taking part in medical research, and giving expert opinions where such opinions are required.

17. Taking part in designing and running programmes that raise public awareness of how to protect against diseases requiring sub-specialist health care.

18. Conducting autopsies to determine the cause of death.

19. Determining death and the cause of death in accordance with the prescribed standard.

20. Providing sub-specialist services for the prescribed period in atoll health centres, where such services are required.

Requirements of the post

    Possessing a Basic Medical Degree recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. And,

    Completed internship at a Medical Institute recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. And,

    Holding a specialty master's degree recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council, at no lower than Level 9 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework. And,

    Holding a specialty degree (in a related field) at Level 10 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. And,

    Having completed a clinical programme (in a related field) at no lower than Level 8 of the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, in medical specialty, recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.

6. Copies of documents as specified below demonstrating work experience:

(a) If work experience has been gained in a civil service post, in a state institution, in a government-owned company, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(b) Work carried out where the experience duration is not visible from https://myaccount.csc.gov.mv/, a letter issued by that office stating the position held, the duration of the post (in years, months and days as applicable), and the responsibilities of the post (even if work has been done in different positions in the same office).

(c) If work experience has been gained in a private company or private organisation, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) and the number of staff at the workplace.
