Opportunity to Stand for Membership of the Local Government Authority Board

In accordance with Clause (2)(iii) of Article 59(a) of Law No. 7/2010 (Law on the Decentralised Administration of the Maldives' Administrative Divisions), an opportunity to stand for the vacant civil society membership of the Local Government Authority Board is hereby opened from today until 12:00 on Sunday, 1 November 2026, and announced accordingly.

Article 59(b) of that Law states that persons appointed as members of the Local Government Authority must fulfil the following requirements.

1. Be a Maldivian citizen;

2. Have reached the age of 25 (twenty-five) years;

3. Be a person of sound mind.

4. Not being a person who has been found by the Sharia court to have committed, within the past 5 (five) years, an offence for which a hadd punishment is prescribed, or a criminal offence, or an offence of treachery, or an offence of bribery, or an offence of trading in, trafficking, or using intoxicating substances;

5. Not being a member of an elected body under the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives or under any law, or a member of an independent institution provided for in the Constitution or of another independent institution established by law;

Therefore, persons wishing to stand for membership of the Local Government Authority are requested to submit the following documents to the Office of the President.

1. Form for application for membership

2. Declaration of the person wishing to stand for membership

3. Completed criminal and financial record form (records issued after the date of announcement)

4. Candidate's CV

5. Photocopies of letters, if any employment has been held, showing the places where the employment was held, the jobs performed, the period of those jobs, and the main responsibilities of those jobs

Note: Records and forms must be those issued after the date of announcement.

Forms for application for membership of the Local Government Authority, the declaration, and the criminal and financial record form will be received during the application period, on days other than public holidays, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Office of the President. These forms and the declaration can also be downloaded from the website of the Office of the President. The website address is presidency.gov.mv.
