Main responsibilities and duties of the post

Medical Officer, (Public Service Rank 7 - Step 1)

1. Conducting physical examinations as required to assess the patient's physical and mental condition.

2. Gathering additional information from the patient and family members to determine the patient's health status.

3. Ordering investigations to determine the patient's condition and proceeding with treatment based on the results of these investigations.

4. Providing counselling and guidance to the patient, advising the patient on protection from disease, managing the patient's condition according to guidelines, and monitoring the patient's condition regularly.

5. Assisting in medical procedures and operations necessary for treatment.

6. Referring patients to specialist doctors and special centres and hospitals as required in conditions requiring referral.

7. Writing and maintaining medical records of the patient and sharing this information with the parties with whom it needs to be shared.

8. Providing information that needs to be provided to various parties for legal and technical purposes, and providing support and cooperation in research and investigations related to the work.

9. Detecting and managing conditions that may arise during pregnancy and after delivery, and making referrals where necessary.

10. Participating in work for public health protection and implementing and conducting programmes aimed at public awareness.

11. Providing care to persons suffering from various injuries and illnesses seeking medical treatment.

12. Participating in providing health services during emergencies, national disasters and outbreaks of disease.

13. Determining the cause of death in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

    Possessing a Basic Medical Degree recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. And,
    Completed internship at a Medical Institute recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.

    Possessing a Basic Medical Degree recognised by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council. And,

3. A copy of pages of a Maldivian ID card (Identity Card) showing that the applicant is a Maldivian citizen (even if expired), or written documents that can be read clearly; or if the ID card is not available, a birth certificate, passport or driving licence of that person.

4. For employees with an agreement to serve the civil service or government, if transferring to a permanent post, a letter from the office where the work is being carried out stating that there is no objection to leaving the post.

5. Copies of educational certificates obtained.

(a) For educational certificates issued by institutions outside Maldives that have been graded by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at a certain level, copies of the educational certificate and transcript; or: in cases where there is no certificate, a copy of the letter confirming completion of the course and a copy of the assessment report and transcript issued by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.

(b) Copies of educational certificates and transcript issued by local educational institutions in Maldives; or copies of letter confirming completion of the course and copies of transcript.

6. Copies of documents as specified below demonstrating work experience:

(a) If work experience has been gained in a civil service post, in a state institution, in a government-owned company, a letter from that office stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each).

(b) Work carried out where the experience duration is not visible from https://myaccount.csc.gov.mv/, a letter issued by that office stating the position held, the duration of the post (in years, months and days as applicable), and the responsibilities of the post (even if work has been done in different positions in the same office).

(c) If work experience has been gained in a private company or private organisation, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, the period of work (in years, months and days), the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each) and the number of staff at the workplace.

(d) If work has been undertaken in a national or international association or society, a letter from that organisation stating the work undertaken, and the period (in years, months and days), and the responsibilities of the post (if work has been undertaken in different posts in one institution, the responsibilities should be stated separately for each). This letter should state whether the position held is a salaried position or not, or alternatively, an official letter from that organisation confirming this.
